SUB-ARTICLE #1: TOKUBIQUITY

Welcome to the first of the sub-articles!

Barring the second, these are a lot more casual than the main article. I mean, this one is literally just a bunch of pictures slapped on a page, but what better way to list the colorful array of references to tokusatsu past and present? Note that we only considered references from games and that this list is undoubtedly WOEFULLY INCOMPLETE and never intended to be comprehensive. We are less interested in the Sentai and Kamen Rider stuff but if you know of other Ultraman references than what are listed, let us know in the comments below!

Special thanks to these wikis for doing most of the work for us here:

http://ultra.wikia.com/wiki/Ultra_Series/Cultural_References#Videogames

I. Super Sentai References

Ape Escape - Freaky Monkey Five
Bomberman - Bomberman Bros.
Final Fantasy XV - Justice Monsters Five
Final Fantasy XV - Magitek Exosuit (was eventually altered due to a claim from Saban)
Godhand - Mad Midget Five
Killer7 - Handsome Men
Dynasty Warriors 8 DLC costumes - Guan Yu pictured
Mario & Luigi Dream Team - Rescue V
Super Mario RPG - Axem Rangers
Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops Plus - Special Camo Soldier
Mega Man Battle Network 3 - NetRangers
Persona series - Featherman R
Disgaea - Prism Rangers

Shin Megami Tensei IV - Samurai scarves

And yes, there are plenty of Super Sentai references in American media, too--Power Rangers was kind of a phenomenon for a while, after all. However, the majority of them are just straight mocking parodies without the reverence as talked about in the main article.

II. Kamen Rider references

Many Kamen Rider refs use the hero's iconic scarf even when there is no mask or costume.

Animal Crossing - Go, KK Rider
Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow - Kicker Skeleton
F-Zero - Captain Falcon
Shin Megami Tensei IV - Hero armor set "Kame Rider"
Tokyo Mirage Sessions - Masqueraider
Street Fighter EX - SKULLOMANIA
Wild Arms - Knight Blazer

III. Ultraman References

Best for last?

Pokemon - Staryu; chest orb + Japanese name is Hitodeman (ヒトデマン )
Pokemon - Poke Ball; based on Capsule Kaiju
Attack of the Friday Monsters - Cleaner Man

Kirby series - Sir Kibble; based on Ultraseven
Kirby series - Sir Kibble's Cutter ability; based on Ultraseven's Eyeslugger weapon
Breath of Fire 3 - Stallion

Ace Attorney series - Steel Samurai
WarioWare series - Classic Clash microgame
Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey - Asherah; Ultraman's Dada on left

IV. Other

Then there are the games that are comprehensive send-ups of the genre like Viewtiful Joe, Wonderful 101, Captain Rainbow, and ZHP Unlosing Ranger that are beyond referential, so we didn't include them.

That's it for our ultra-brief look at these. Again if you know of other Ultraman nuggets hidden in games, let us know in the comments--the comments on this page, that will hopefully work??? There's gotta be tons more in obscure Japanese games that never made it West.
